HUMAN BODY

We will cover the theme of the human body in art and its context within Europe. We will look at 10 examples of the human body in European artworks, and we will present two classroom activities – one for learning the principles of gesture drawing, with a bonus activity of drawing the human body using artistic techniques from one of the periods studied. The other will be a lesson and a reflection on the whitewashing of art in Europe.

DISABILITY IN ART

We will look at examples of the disabled human body as it has been represented in art history. Through this dossier, you will explore the body in visual culture to uncover how bodily difference is and has been articulated physically and theoretically and demonstrates how disability can be defined as a cultural construction. Because this is a vast project, this sheet uses just a few artistic examples per theme.

We will present the role of colors in artworks, introduce the concept of color theory and the role of colors in creating a sense of depth and perspective. We will first look at the origins of colors, then provide comprehensive information regarding color theory, introducing concepts such as hue, value, chroma, contrast, and more.
Lastly, we will present different methods in which colors can be used to create depth.

PERSPECTIVES

We will cover the theme of Perspective in art and its context within Europe. We will learn about the origins of perspective and the reasons why artist felt the need to develop it further and the different styles of perspective and the techniques used. We will look at 10 examples in European artworks, and we will present one classroom activity that will help us to learn about different types of perspective and see if we can tell the difference between them.
